1)Why do you want to be an ABC rep?
IÕmlooking to be highly involved on Columbia campus my senior year. As formerpresident of CSC, I have been in constant touch with ABC. I remember beingfrustrated and very taken aback by the Columbia bureaucracy and was extremelyrelieved that Sam, Grace and Alfred could explain the policies to me in orderto make new events happen. Next year, I want to be that resource for Asianclubs as well to help them navigate ABC policies so they can make the bestevents without worrying about underlying policies.
2)As an ABC Rep, which groups would you be most interested in representing?Explain your interest in those groups as well as any prior experience withthose groups or other related qualifications.
Iwould be most interested in representing Asian cultural clubs. Since I wasinvolved in CSC, I was able to collaborate with many of them, including TASA,HKSSS, KSA, and SEAL and have attended a large proportion of their events. Iwas also highly involved with the KSA culture show as art coordinator but alsoassisted the directors with logistics and outreach. On another note, I am alsopersonally familiar with most of the people on the boards of the clubs thisyear, which would be beneficial when contacting them about ABC issues.
3) Namesome changes that you believe would positively impact ABC?
AlthoughI touched base with ABC from time to time on certain budgetary issues, only thetreasurer maintains communication with the club. I believe that transparency, especially involving conflict of interest and the budget, should be integratedinto a meeting with the club eboard and the ABC representative. Alfred Davis,CSCÕs former representative, was always present and helpful but I feel that amore engaging approach, perhaps multiple sit downs, on certain policies. Iwould have also liked to meet the ABC executive board, just to be acquainted,in case I had other questions.
4)Name 1-3 policy initiatives that you think ABC should pursue next year.
ABC should be more transparentabout budget allocations and speak with the executive board, instead of dealingwith just the treasurer. Since the treasurer and I often had to explain ABCpolicies to the secretary and VPs whenever ABC made a decision about an appeal,I feel that it would be beneficial to involve more people.
