Funding Sources

In addition to our groups' initial Activities Board allocations, there many additional sources of funds available for recognized student groups at Columbia. The sources below represent an incomplete list of available options for groups seeking additional funds.

Student Council Co-Sponsorships

The Columbia College, Columbia Engineering, and General Studies Student Councils, as well as the Barnard Student Government Association, offer funding for new programming. Please contact the council funding representatives for more information on these opportunities.

Gatsby Fund

The Gatbsy Charitable Fund supports student-led arts-related programming at Columbia. The guiding spirit of the Fund is to inspire the creation of new student artwork and student arts endeavors.

President's and Provost's Fund

The President's and Provost's Student Event Fund is available to all recognized Columbia University Student Groups. The Fund provides financial support to events which benefit the University community through collaboration and creative programming on campus.

Eligibility:

  1. The initiative must occur during the eligibility period.
  2. The initiative should be organized and hosted by a recognized Student Group(s) in good standing with the university.
  3. The initiative should be held on campus (Morningside or Medical Center).
  4. The initiative should be advertised and open to the University community.
  5. The initiative may be artistic, cultural, educational, or social.
  6. Funds awarded may only be applied to event as described on application.

OMA Diversity Initiative Grant

The Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) Diversity Initiative Grant is available to Columbia recognized student organizations to support events that fulfill two or all of the following objectives: foster diversity education, promote multicultural awareness, create avenues for cross-cultural dialogue.

Grants are commensurate to program/ event costs up to $500. A student organization may only receive a Diversity Initiative Grant once per semester.

The Office of the University Chaplain Co-Sponsorship Fund

The Office of the University Chaplain Co-Sponsorship Fund is available to recognized Columbia University undergraduate, graduate, and professional student groups whose programs explore issues of religion, spirituality, race, ethnicity, sexual identity, gender, social justice or community service. The Kraft Family Fund for Intercultural and Interfaith Awareness

The Kraft Family Fund for Intercultural and Interfaith Awareness supports collaborative efforts between two or more recognized student groups at Columbia University to promote intercultural and interfaith understanding on campus during the academic year. Student Groups

Consult with other student organizations recognized by the University to find groups that may be interested in organizing and co-sponsoring an event with you. For a list of organizations and websites, you can go to the website of each governing board or visit the Groups section of our website.

Corporate Sponsorships

Student groups may seek appropriate sponsorship, advertising revenue, or the donation of products to help finance events and activities.
